Rooted in Iran: The Origin Story of Fafabiotic

These days, my heart is heavy. All I can think about is my parents and siblings still living in Iran, a country now caught in the middle of war, once again suffering because of a regime that has held it hostage for 47 years. Amid this grief, I’ve been reflecting deeply on my roots—and how Fafabiotic is, in many ways, a product of Persian culture and wisdom.

The idea for Fafabiotic came from my mom. Her name is Iran—yes, just like the country itself. A few years ago, when I was deciding what problem I wanted to solve with my own company, I was searching for a way to help my daughter’s eczema. I called my mom in Tehran, and she told me what she used to do for me as a child whenever I had dry, red, itchy patches under my eyes: she’d gently apply yogurt.

That remedy didn’t exactly resonate with my daughter, but it sparked something in me. With my background in microbial formulation and years of scientific experience, I started looking at yogurt differently: its richness in probiotics, its traditional use in Persian remedies, and its potential for skin health. The pieces started coming together.

That was the beginning of Fafabiotic.

It led to what we now have today: two powerful, alive skincare products based on live probiotics. Not just inspired by science, but inspired by love, by tradition, by family. I owe the idea to two Irans: my mother, Iran, and my homeland, Iran.

May the beautiful land of Iran and its resilient people be protected from harm and hardship. I truly hope that one day, very soon, you’ll get to visit my beloved country and experience its beauty for yourself.

With peace and love,
Farzaneh
