For those who may not be familiar, SynBioBeta is one of the most influential platforms in synthetic biology, where groundbreaking science meets entrepreneurship and innovation. They shine a spotlight on companies that are reshaping industries—from healthcare to agriculture—with biology as the building block. To be recognized by such a trusted and forward-thinking voice just days before our official launch is an incredible honor.

In the article, Dr. Gallegos explores the next wave of probiotic innovation, featuring several companies that are challenging the status quo—including Fafabiotic, which stands out for its scientific rigor in formulation and precision delivery of live microbes. Unlike many products on the market that rely on generic blends and buzzwords, we’ve built our technology around viable, well-characterized probiotics, delivered in a way that maintains their integrity right up to the moment of application.

What stood out most to me was how she opened the article, calling out two of the biggest assumptions in the current probiotic space:

“Most probiotics on the market today are based on two fundamental assumptions:
– We know what strain is going to be beneficial for every person at any time
– That strain will impact the gut microbe population when taken as a supplement”

These two points alone reflect the same concerns I’ve raised time and time again—not just as a founder, but as a microbial formulation scientist. I’ve often spoken about the misinformation that plagues microbial products, especially when it comes to how they’re formulated and what they actually deliver. Jenna captured the essence of that beautifully.

But those two assumptions are just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more misconceptions, oversimplifications, and marketing-driven narratives that we, as a brand, are committed to debunking.
