To My Skin Microbiome Enthusiasts,
Thereβs no shortage of skincare products out there β I think weβve all established that by now! But why should anyone consider products that contain live and active microbial cells?
Letβs take a moment to explore this together:
Traditional skincare products are dead β donβt worry, Iβm not here to scare you, but itβs true! Our skin, on the other hand, is very much alive. So, what happens when we apply these dead products to living skin? Not much! They mostly just sit on the surface.
Sure, brands love to tell us that their products βpenetrate deep into the skin,β but letβs be honest β for the most part, they don’t. And as soon as we wash our face or go about our day, that product (and whatever temporary effect it had) is gone.
Now, hereβs where things get exciting.
Alive and active skincare β products that contain living microbes β interact with your skin and its microbiome. Do I believe they completely change your microbiome? No. They canβt (and shouldn’t) colonize your skin long-term. But what they can do is interact, communicate, and send signals to your skin and its microbiome.
Think of these signals like a gentle nudge β the kind we all need sometimes to get back on track. And while the microbes themselves may not stick around, the impact of that nudge can last for months, long after the product has been washed away.
Using live and active microbial ingredients is like having money that keeps working for you, even while you sleep β and who doesnβt want that?
So, at the end of the day, the choice seems simple, doesnβt it?
Alive skincare works with your skin, not just on your skin.
With love,
Your fellow microbiome enthusiast
