Why active and alive skincare?

To My Skin Microbiome Enthusiasts,

There’s no shortage of skincare products out there — I think we’ve all established that by now! But why should anyone consider products that contain live and active microbial cells?

Let’s take a moment to explore this together:

Traditional skincare products are dead — don’t worry, I’m not here to scare you, but it’s true! Our skin, on the other hand, is very much alive. So, what happens when we apply these dead products to living skin? Not much! They mostly just sit on the surface.

Sure, brands love to tell us that their products “penetrate deep into the skin,” but let’s be honest — for the most part, they don’t. And as soon as we wash our face or go about our day, that product (and whatever temporary effect it had) is gone.

Now, here’s where things get exciting.

Alive and active skincare — products that contain living microbes — interact with your skin and its microbiome. Do I believe they completely change your microbiome? No. They can’t (and shouldn’t) colonize your skin long-term. But what they can do is interact, communicate, and send signals to your skin and its microbiome.

Think of these signals like a gentle nudge — the kind we all need sometimes to get back on track. And while the microbes themselves may not stick around, the impact of that nudge can last for months, long after the product has been washed away.

Using live and active microbial ingredients is like having money that keeps working for you, even while you sleep — and who doesn’t want that?

So, at the end of the day, the choice seems simple, doesn’t it?

Alive skincare works with your skin, not just on your skin.

With love,
Your fellow microbiome enthusiast
