Greetings to all skin microbiome enthusiasts and readers.
I’ve been traveling through parts of France and Spain over the past week, and as always, I find myself dreaming of a day when America can adopt some European eating habits and culture. From spending hours enjoying a meal to having access to fresh produce and understanding the work-life balance, there’s much Americans can learn from them. I haven’t delved into literature to confirm if, generally, gut health is better in Europe than in America, but considering the quality of food and lifestyles in Europe, I’d think the gut microbiome is happier there than in the USA. It often feels like an extra effort and difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the US, as if eating healthy is a lifestyle choice rather than a style of life.
Since the gut microbiome has a direct impact on the skin microbiome, another piece of research I plan to look into once I’m back is the quality of skin and skin microbiome in Europe versus the US, and whether one is superior to the other. I have my suspicions!
So, I leave you with this thought: what would it take for Americans to demand healthy eating and access to fresh produce as a standard of life rather than a luxury lifestyle?
Until the next blog, cheers.
